Short Movie Review

Dead Man Walking Review:

What do you believe should happen to Matthew?
I believe Matthew shouldn't of been made to be executed by the injections. Though I believe Matthew should have stay in jail. The reason for this being, Matthew might not have committed the crime, if they kill Matthew it would like condemning a innocent man to die for a crime he never committed  and letting the criminal go free, to commit more crime! Even if Matthew did commit the crime and murder someone, there is still no reason to kill him. He is another human being, one of the commandments specifically say, 'do not kill'. Therefore even if it's the most humane way of killing someone, you should not kill someone it is against the ways of the commandment and against Jesus's teaching. Killing Matthew for murdering someone would be just like doing what he did, you would be stooping to Matthews level. Two wrongs don't make a right!

Write down 5 qualities of Sister Helen's
One of the first qualities I think of, of Sister Helen's is bravery. Sister Helen had the guts to respond to what was said to be a murderer in prison. Sister Helen could have easily just said no and not have done anything to anger people. Sister Helen always managed to keep calm and determined even in the tight situations she was going through. This is another one of her qualities, being able to stay calm and determined even when the world was against her. Sister Helen was always forgiving, if Matthew was to have wanted redemption and to show people that he would never in his life hurt someone again, Sister Helen would have been at his side to help and give forgiveness. Religious, is also another one of Sister Helen's good qualities. Sister Helen always in any situation could find a way to relate it to what the Bible or Jesus/God says. The last quality of Sister Helen's I would like to recognise is Sister Helen's courage. How many people do you think would try and go against so many people to help save a so called murderer? It's amazing what Sister Helen would and did to try and save a man like Matthew.

If you were Sister Helen what would you do?
If I were Sister Helen I would have done the same as she did. I do not believe any human being should be killed no matter how big or small the crime. Not until at least hearing the criminals story. I might not have been as brave as Sister Helen to go against some of those families with children who were the victims of the crime. I might have helped if the Matthew more if he had been more worthy of beening saved. But still even if Matthew was not a nice man or did commit those crimes, I still would have stood up for him not beening killed.

Blog 5: Wayne Bennetts - a Role Model & Inspiration to All

Family Values
Wayne Bennett lived with an alcoholic father who gambled all their families money away. The experience of being an outcast made Bennett see and treat everyone equal never judging people by their background. Bennett's family where seen as outcasts and where looked down on. Since his father gambled, Bennett went to work at the age of 13. He always kept on top of his school work as well. At the age of 15, Bennett was excepted into the police force. He never gave up, always moving forward and doing the best he could.

How did Wayne Bennett deal with suffering?
Wayne Bennett now has three children of his own. His oldest is disabled and his youngest was born with muscular problems. Even with two of his children disabled, Wayne Bennett couldn't be prouder of his family. Bennett never complains about the suffering in his life, he just pushes forward, always forgiving.

Influence on Others
Wayne Bennett received Coach of the year in 1997, also in the same year Bennett was awarded Father of the year. Wayne Bennett has been coaching for over 20 years! He is known to his team as a second father and a best friend. Bennett inspires so many people, and never gives up. Never looking down on others and treating people as equals influences others to do good and treat others respectable. Some people believe that Bennett influences all in one way or another.

How is Wayne Bennett a Role Model to Others?
Wayne Bennett would have to be the best role model of all. This is because he is honest, someone who is always moving forward, helps others, never puts anyone down or letting anyone down. Bennett doesn't drink or gamble and is patient with every thing. Constantly helping people by giving advise and tips on everything and anything.

What quality Do You Want in the World or in Yourself that Wayne Bennett has?
If I could give the world one of the qualities that Wayne Bennett has, it would be the one where no one looks down on anyone, where no one judges someone by their looks or clothes. The world would be a better place if people didn't judge. One quality I would like is patience and persistence in everything I do.

Blog 4: Cambodia - Walking in Someone else's Shoes

Soul Survivors:

What would it be like for you to be in Lieng's shoes for a day?
The article I am reflecting on is about a medical student in Cambodia. I believe that what the medical student 'Lieng' did, was amazing and brave. If I was in her shoes for a day I would struggle, as I live in a first world country where we are able to do what we like and don't have to worry about being run by a dictator.

I would find it hard to deal with no family to support me and be by my side. Having the determination that Lieng had, would help me move forward. I would definitely have gone through with going through medical school as there was need of more doctors. But overall what Lieng went through was harsh and being able to make good decisions and to not give up was amazing of her.

Being Australia means we will never have to experience what people in Cambodia go through, most of us don't even think of half of what happens in Cambodia. Being aware of what happens over in Cambodia helps people in first world countries realise what they have and to be thankful of all the opportunities open to them.

Blog 3: Moral Processing and Conscience

Conscience Just Ahead Green Road Sign with Dramatic Storm Clouds and Sky. Stock Photo - 7374818Conscience: A voice inside you, telling you what is right and wrong; a second mind, gut instinct. A conscience helps people make decisions.
Everyone has a conscience, some people use theirs and others don't. Without a conscience, people are blind to wants right and wrong and would end up in trouble.

Decision-making should be a process that we follow in order to check that our lives are consistent with our own moral code. Moral decision-making process can be applied to this scenario:
A friend of mine, who is also a popular and well known student, boasts to me that he/she has managed to steal a copy of the semesters science exam. He/she is prepared to sell it for $10. This test has a 50% weighting on the overall result. What do I do? Would I buy a copy for myself? Would I report the incident?

Decision Making Process:
1. Problem: Stolen exam paper, stolen by my friend. My friend is selling exam paper.

2. Who is Involved: Me, my friend, rest of yr9.

3. Rules: Do not steal - 10 commandments

4. Benefits: Positive - Better marks, no studying, parents impressed, help
                                friend.
Negative - If report you lose friend(s), trouble with teachers,
Principal, parents, science teacher will have to rewrite
                                 science exam.

What would I do?
I would tell my friend that what he/she is doing is wrong and would try and talk he/she out of it. I would disagree with my friend but would not report my friend straight away. I would wait and see what happens. If my friend proceeds with selling the exam and not doesn't get caught then I would tell a teacher.

Would I buy a copy for myself?
I would not buy a copy of the exam because it is wrong and I would feel I was unfair, to myself, my class and teacher, and to my parents.

Would you report the incident?
I would tell my parents about the stolen exam and ask them for advise. Then maybe I would report the stolen exam to my science teacher.

Blog 2: What Is Suffering

Suffering is a difficult concept for us to understand. Each of us deals with suffering differently.

How do you deal with the concept of suffering?
I personally have not suffered anything that great in my life, but the ways some people deal with suffering are by: shutting-down, laughing (at wrong times), crying, being angry or closing away from others. One way that helps people deal with suffering is getting in and helping those who have or are suffering.

Why do you think suffering exists?
I believe suffering exists to balance out the good. Without suffering people would take the good for granted. There should be consequences for doing wrong, sometimes consequences can be suffering. Suffering teaches us what is right and what is wrong. Suffering brings people or communities together, it teaches us to help others in suffering. People make mistakes as well and sometime can cause suffering, not on purpose but by being human beings. Sometimes we can’t even control what happens, suffering just happens.

How does suffering affect your understanding of God?
Suffering doesn't affect my understanding of God, because I know that God is not always to blame when something bad happens. As human beings we are not perfect, sometimes we choose to cause suffering. We all have freewill, we all choose what we do and say. Suffering doesn't affect my understanding of God also because, God never gives us more than we can handle. The way I look at is like this: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. God does things for a reason, whether its to teach us a lesson or to point us in the right direction.

Of all the evil that causes suffering in this world, what is the one thing you would always stand up and fight against?

Standing up and fighting means you have to get in and support, being there to help, not being the bystander who couldn’t care less.

There are a few things I would always stand up and fight against, the first one is cancer. Cancer causes suffering to many people. My grandfather died of cancer before I was born, so I have always been eager to support and help cure cancer. I will always support foundations trying to cure cancer and helping those with cancer.

Blog 1: The Seven Deadly Sins vs Virtues

There are seven virtues and they are: - Faith
                                                                - Hope
                                                                - Love
                                                                - Prudence                GOOD
                                                                - Justice
                                                                - Fortitude
                                                                - Temperance

The opposite to the virtues are the Seven deadly sins: - Pride
                                                                                             - Envy
                                                                                             - Lust
                                                                                             - Anger                    BAD
                                                                                             - Greed
                                                                                             - Slothfulness
                                                                                             - Gluttony

Why do we have seven of each?
We have seven of each because God made the world in 6 days and 1 to rest, 7 days - 7 sins & virtues

Why is it important to have a balance between sins and virtues in our lives?
To keep everything even, so no ones perfect but not evil either. It makes everyone equals.
This means that as humans will always have something to improve about ourselves.

Think of one "big evil" event in the world or "one evil person" and explain which seven deadly sins effected that event or person?
I chose World War 1 as it was a big evil event in the world. World War 1 was affected by four of the seven deadly sins, they where: Greed, Pride, Envy, Anger.

Think of a role model that you know that lives out the virtues
A good role model that I know of is Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a nun who gave up everything and went over to India to helping the poor. She started up a group called Mission of Charity  – a congregation dedicated to caring for “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers and any others in need of help." Mother Teresa displayed all the virtues in her everyday life thus making her a good role model.
